As a
CityLife Community Care
team, we have worked together to support a client who is living with complex and chronic health conditions whilst navigating additional challenging circumstances. Initially trust was established through the Practical Support and COACH Mentoring Teams, and recently a referral to the Home and Garden Maintenance Program. As someone who always tries his best, he was feeling quite hopeless about his circumstances. He shared that he felt very embarrassed and discouraged for not being able to maintain his garden and lawns. He had always taken good care of his property when he was able to. One Saturday, a team of volunteers, including members from a couple of Life Groups, provided gardening support with mowing, weeding and trimming. Later on, the garden now looking spick and span and the volunteers packed up and ready to go, the client gave the project leader a big hug. With tear-filled eyes he expressed his thanks for the amazing transformation the team had brought to his once neglected garden. We are looking to arrange another team project: this time to help with the back yard. Recently he shared with us just how overwhelmed he feels by the kindness and support given to him by our various services. He is at a loss for words for the help he has received in managing his unruly garden.
