Our daughter was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2011 at age 9. This ailment results in stomach cramps, constant urge to go to the toilet, bleeding and severe anxiety leading to lack of concentration as the overwhelming concern is to overcome the pain and be close to a toilet. We are grateful that we were in Australia at the time. With God’s provision, she was treated by a Gastroenterologist over the course of many years where the medication was designed to keep the bowel inflammation under control. Despite of the constant discomfort, she managed to complete school, go onto university where she is now a 3rd year student studying Nursing And Midwifery. She also regularly worked at McDonalds during her school years and later moved to working casual jobs in aged care and hospital administration. In the background, there was in constant pain, of which she never complained.

In February 2023, she had a significant flareup of her condition, leading to loss of appetite, and severe stomach pain as well as pain when going to the toilet. On Easter Sunday, we took her to Casey hospital emergency and through God’s provision she was taken in and subsequently Casey hospital sought to send her to Dandenong Hospital - Gastrointestinal ward. A bed became available that evening and we took her to Dandenong Hospital. The Gastro team gave her the latest available anti-inflammatory medication which they were very confident would bring the inflammation and pain under control. 5 days later and after 2 doses of the medication the Doctors saw no improvement. That’s when they got the Surgical team to come in and discuss / prepare for an ileostomy, a surgical procedure whereby the inflamed large intestines are removed. The surgery was successfully completed on the 20th of April.

She recovered very well from the surgery and was able to come back home by Monday 24th April. Her recovery continued at a very miraculous pace and she was able to start going to the gym, drive, go to work and university and get on with life without the constant pain and anxiety of the past 13 years. She sleeps well and is extremely happy that the last 13 years of this disease weighing upon her has been lifted. She is very strong in faith and did not lose hope but continued to cleave to God's word and his love and provision. She continues to enjoy Church and Life Group which is a central part of her weekly routine. We continue to remain convinced that prayer over the last many years ensured that each of us were ready for every step of this journey. Over the years God prepared all of us and specially my daughter to the point where she was looking forward to the surgery. We thank God for the hospital team, the care she received was nothing short of God’s love being present. We thank our Life Group for the prayers that upheld us at that time of great need and stress. God’s Love and grace have overwhelmed us as a family.
