Our old family car was in an accident and we reported a claim with insurance. We were advised that the market value had dropped tremendously, being that it was an 11 year-old car. We were very disappointed as it meant having to buy a new car and not having much from insurance to work with. The insurance company made a ‘financial decision’ to write the car off completely as the repair cost was more than the market value left on the car.
We got together as a family and prayed for God’s favour on what the assessor would tag the market value at. I got a call from the assessor with the market value and it was the higher end of the range (praise God). In the conversation with the assessor I appealed for reconsideration since we just put on new tyres and replaced the radiator, and I had records to prove that we had serviced the car regularly. He agreed to take another look at the car and let me know the next day if he would revise the value. Again, the family prayed for God’s favour. The next day the assessor called and gave us a revised value (slight increase) and we were very thankful.
In that conversation with the assessor I found out that he attends a church in Queensland, and we ended up praying for each other over the phone. My kids were amused that mum was praying for the assessor over the phone. I never imagined that God could turn a business conversation into a God conversation. Just as important, God knows what we need and we are thankful for his favour with the assessor.
