Water and then Holy Spirit Baptism

Water and then Holy Spirit BaptismEarlier this year my daughter told us that she wanted to be baptised. She had heard the explanation at
Kids Church
and was very interested to take that step. Additionally, some friends of hers from
Life Group
were also being baptised, and she was very keen to do this at the same time, which was a very special experience. During the baptism and in the journal the church gave her, the leaders prayed for her about God giving her the fruit of the Spirit, and the confidence to use these gifts. This was very timely as just prior to the baptism I had been reflecting on a word that she had been given when she was born, about having sure-footed confidence (Habakkuk 3:19).
We gave her a Bible as a present for her baptism, and she was very interested in reading it afterwards, and had lots of questions. She has had a lot of questions relating to her own place in the world, and what God’s purpose is for her life. She was feeling unsure about herself and her place. I got out the journal and explained the fruit of the Spirit to her, and some other words that she had been given on the day of her baptism by others at the service. Through this, she realised what her purpose was, to use those gifts to help others around her, and to spread God’s love. It all seemed to come together for her and she seemed to understand and be more peaceful in herself.
During the last school holidays, my daughter came into the church service with us. She listened to a message by Lynn Moresi on
the gifts of the Spirit
. That night when we were having dinner, we asked her if she had any questions about the message. She asked questions about the gifts of the Spirit, and about speaking in tongues. We answered some questions, and then asked her if she would like to speak in tongues. She said that she would, we prayed for her, and she started speaking! It all happened very quickly and simply, and all at the dinner table! She has since been learning to listen to God and to pray. Her younger sister also had a similar experience! Praise God.
