Mars Hill – Engaging Culture
How to See and Begin to Reach your own Mars Hill

Evangelism is often seen as something we do rather than something we live.
We feel guilty about evangelism.
We want to do it, but there is a disconnect.
We are busy and it’s getting harder.
It’s a loaded word. “Evangelism” and “outreach” comes with so much baggage.

Question:          What things do you think about when you hear the word “Evangelism”?

Matthew 28:18-20
“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

The Greek word for “Go” means “As you go…
As you go about life… as a mum or mechanic, artist or accountant. As you work, shop and raise your kids…

Question:          Could you imagine your life as your Mars Hill (mission field)?
What would you have to change?

John 20:21
“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

God is a sending God.
The Latin word for “Mission” is “missio”.
God is the “Missio Dei” - God is a sending God.

Question:          Do you see God as a sending God?
Where else in the bible do we see this?

“It’s not the Church of God that has a Mission in the world, but rather, the God of Mission that has a Church in the world.”

Question:          What did Jesus do in the bible to demonstrate this kind of life?

John 1:14 (MSG)
The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood.”

Question:          To whom are you sent?
What’s your neighbourhood or Mars Hill?
How could you move in more fully into your Mars Hill?
