A young mum, who is a migrant from a third-world country,
had so much potential but lacked the confidence to integrate into the
Australian community. Her conversational English was poor, so she was very keen
to connect with a COACH mentor from CityLife Community Care to help her improve
her English and to learn more about Australian culture. She was so eager to
learn, and her spoken English improved so dramatically, that she was soon able
to enrol in a short-term course in Aged Care. She completed the course, secured
a placement, and was recently offered a position! This couldn’t have come at a
better time; with the cost of living rising and with her family struggling to
keep up with the all the expenses, her extra income helps them to keep a roof
over their heads. After being in Australia for 8 years, with the support and
help from her mentor, she now feels confident in her English and her ability to
procure work, and is looking forward to a brighter future.
