This is a story from our pastoral care team. One Friday, we received a phone call from a lady reporting that her
husband was very sick at Monash in the ICU. He was in a coma and had been on life-support for a week. He was not responding to any treatments and the doctors had
asked his wife to come prepared to discuss his future, as they were going
to turn the life-support off on the following Monday.
When we arrived at the ICU we
saw a nurse by his side, watching for any signs of recovery. She was sitting in
front of him watching him all the time. I know there were a lot of people
praying for him. When we looked at him I did not think he was going to make it
without life-support.
Before I prayed I asked him if it was ok to pray for him. I was surprised to see a
slight movement on his head. I told the nurse that he is trying to respond to us. The
nurse replied back saying he does that some times, however, he was not responding to the treatment. We prayed for him and his wife sang a hymn, and then we went left.
The next evening
when we rang his wife she said that on Sunday he started opening his eyes when
someone talked to him. Praise God, God is good! We went again on Sunday to see
him and unfortunately could not get into the ICU as they were treating him.
So we left without seeing him. However, we kept praying for him. We then went to see him again on Tuesday.
We were surprised to see him totally recovered from the
coma and he had been eating and he spoke to us. He had some trouble remembering
a few things, but went on to rehabilitation and recovering. We serve an awesome
God!
